About Us

Eggleston Hall Fishing Syndicate offers approximately 3.8 miles of superb fly fishing with Eggleston bridge affording easy access to both banks. Affordable membership ensures outstanding value for aals and visiting anglers.

The water has plenty of variety and is split up into 3 beats: Upper, Middle and Lower.

The Water

The upper beat starts at Eggleston Beck, accessed through Burnfoot Farm. The middle and lower beats are mainly fished from the north bank with the exception of 1.5kms on the south bank upstream from the Bridge Pool. You can decide how far you wish to walk to enjoy your fishing. However, car to river can be as little as 30ms to the middle and lower beats. Parking at Burnfoot farm the river is little further but no more than 300ms. All 3 beats offer incredible fly fishing for salmon, with a mixture of waters types and many named pools. Wading is generally good. However, some places can be tricky especially on the lower beat. A wading staff is always advised.

Best Approach

All the Eggleston Hall water fish exceptionally well on the fly for trout, and faultless methods include traditional north country spiders, dry flies, and up or down stream nymphing. Streamers are also a reliable method. Regarding salmon, fishing during a spate will increase your chances, but Eggleston is noted as an holding water for salmon and will always offer the opportunity of a catch. Dark red shrimp patterns on low water doubles or copper tubes and coneheads are amazingly effective. Fishing with a 9ft or 9ft6in line rating #4 or #5 is the perfect choice of rod for trout, and for salmon, a 10ft 7wt or a 12ft/13ft double handed rod will be ideal. Many of the pools carry depth, so a variety of tips and sinking fly lines will give an advantage. Access is easy throughout this beat for the top and middle beat, but it requires a walk to access the lower.
